Governor Pence pulls plug on “Just IN” website

Indiana Governor Mike Pence notified the news media he is terminating the controversial “Just IN” website project that was announced earlier this week.

On Monday, the Indianapolis Star broke the news the governor was planning a state-run news outlet. They wrote that planning documents showed the governor planned to have it compete with independent news outlets.

On Tuesday, the governor's office issued a press release saying the website would just hold press releases.

On Thursday, the governor released a memo saying he had terminated the “Just IN” website project.

“However well intentioned, after thorough review of the preliminary planning and careful consideration of the concerns expressed, I am writing to inform you that I have made a decision to terminate development of the JustIN website immediately,” Pence wrote in a memo to Department Heads that was released to the media.

Pence stated he is instructing department heads to ensure their press releases are posted to the current http://www.in.gov website.
