Grant helps local veterans

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Big news for some Michiana veterans in need.

Saturday, Congressman Joe Donnelly announced a new grant to help those vets get into permanent housing.

The Congressman stopped at the Miller Veteran's Center in South Bend to make the big announcement.

The nearly $79,000 grant will provide rent for 15 homeless veterans in the South Bend, Mishawaka and Elkhart areas.

"To those who have given us everything, this is a chance to pay a little bit back for all their sacrifice and commitment," said Congressman Joe Donnelly.

The Veteran's Affairs Supportive Housing Grant was created through the U.S. Department of Housing and Development and the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs.
