ELKHART, Ind. – The Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce convened on February 28 to discuss several topics with Indiana state lawmakers.
One of the hottest subjects to come up was the idea of legalization of medical marijuana in the Hoosier state.
Attendees voiced their opinions but legislators responded that the state shouldn’t even think about it until the federal government changes the law. But that decision didn’t sit well with some of the advocates.
“I really don’t think that’s an appropriate response. Indiana needs to be responsible for it’s law. At least not prosecute people who go to another state to get medical marijuana for medical needs,” Elkhart County resident Jim Burnes said.
Medical and recreational marijuana are both legal in neighboring states.
Other topics discussed at the meeting included the teen vaping epidemic, healthcare costs, and increasing school funding.
