Groundbreaking ceremony held for new 515 East Apartment

ELKHART, Ind. -- more affordable housing is coming to the Elkhart area, with a celebratory groundbreaking taking place this evening.

City leaders welcoming the new 515 East Apartments, a new mixed-use development project comprising of 48 units of income-based housing with one and two-bedroom apartments to make up the new four-story building.

The building will be located on East Street and will be fully equipped with a number of comforts and conveniences.

"Community amenities will include a large community room with a kitchen, fitness center. There's a dog park, a dog washing station, and then there'll be a rooftop deck on the fourth story of the building with views over the Elkhart River and downtown Elkhart as well," stated President of RealAmerica Companies Mike Surak.

The project is being partially financed through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, with additional funds from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.
