INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Data from the Gun Violence Archive shows that Indiana is having one of the most violent years in almost a decade.
There have been 261 deaths and 516 injuries from shootings in Indiana this year, on pace to break the record for most injuries from gun violence in one year in the state's history.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, 3,686 were killed in shootings in the Hoosier state between 2014 and 2022.
In those eight years, Indiana has seen 81 mass shootings, or about 10 per year.
Indiana has already seen 11 mass shootings this year alone, including the recent rampage that left four dead at a shopping mall in Greenwood.
The largest amount of shooting related injuries and deaths comes from the Indianapolis area, with 1,424 deaths and over 2,500 injuries reported in the last eight years.
Indiana District 2, which includes Michiana, came in fourth with regards to shooting deaths and third with total number of injuries in Indiana, with 324 and 704 respectively.
