Gusty winds, lake effect snow, and extreme cold Friday
Dangerous conditions will persist Friday and Saturday.
Roads are icy this morning, as temperatures dropped dramatically overnight. Temperatures are at or below zero today, with wind chills as low as the negative twenties. It feels extremely cold, and you need to cover any exposed skin to avoid frostbite if you have to be outdoors.
The heaviest system snow has moved out, and today we transition into seeing lake effect snow showers.
Snow will continue to accumulate throughout the day and weekend.
Another issue will be blowing and drifting snow. Wind gusts 45, possibly 50 mph are likely today. This could cause whiteout conditions at times and make driving extremely dangerous.
The holiday weekend offers little improvement. Lake effect snow continues all the way into Sunday morning.
Wind chills stay below zero Saturday and Sunday.
Wind gusts up to 35 mph are possible Saturday then 25 mph Sunday. Wind begins to calm by Monday.
Temperatures begin to warm a little each day next week.
