Haley Scott Demaria to give Notre Dame commencement address

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Former Irish swimmer, Haley Scott Demaria, will give the commencement address this year at Notre Dame.

She was paralyzed when she broke her back in a bus accident in 1992.

The swim team was on their way back from a meet and slid off the Indiana Toll Road.

Doctors said she would spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair. Just one month later, she beat the odds and was walking again!

Demaria wrote a book about her experience, which is being turned into a movie!

Commencement begins at 9 a.m. on May 20th at Notre Dame Stadium.

Demaria will also receive an honorary degree.
