SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Health Department is warning people about a shigella outbreak in our area.
The highly contagious bacterial infection causes stomach pain, fever and diarrhea.
Health officials say it started in a daycare in early August and has since spread to at least six schools. There are now 25 confirmed cases.
Doctors recommend washing your hands often.
