First 90 degree days of the year

With the Summer season just around the corner, we are getting an early dose of the heat!

Temperatures climb into the upper 80s to low 90s by Sunday with 90s in the forecast through Tuesday.

More moisture moves into the region as well early next week, increasing the humidity.

The combination of the hot temperatures and humidity will push the heat index into the mid 90s, with near 100 possible.

It is important to stay safe in the heat. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports an average of 618 deaths per year due to excessive heat. Thankfully Northern Indiana and Southwest Michigan will not approach dangerous heat, but it is important to take caution.

Here are a few tips to stay safe in the heat:

    - Drink plenty of water

    - Take breaks to cool off

    - Limit strenuous activities outside

    - Never leave kids or pets unattended in vehicles
