Hidden gems in Howard Park

South Bend's Howard Park is nestled in East Bank Village near downtown.

Alan Brodnax spends some of his afternoons in the historic park, which was developed in 1878.

Fast forward over 100 years later, today the park serves as grounds for people to relax, kids to play, and for Alan, a place to hunt for treasure.
"I go all over, this is one of my parks."

Metal detecting has been his hobby for the last seven years.

"I  might stay here for a half an hour, ten minutes. If I start finding things I stay longer."

He says he finds all sorts of things like, coins, dollars, nickels, dimes, pennies, jewelry, watches, and rings.

Alan says you just never know what you can find.
