Holy Cross College clergy sex abuse report released

NOW: Holy Cross College clergy sex abuse report released

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Holy Cross College just released its long-awaited external investigation into clergy sex abuse allegations against Fr. Thomas King, C.S.C. The report was done by Fort Wayne law firm Barrett McNagy LLP, and proves six former Holy Cross College students "credibly accused" Fr. King of sex abuse or misconduct over the years.

King served as a history professor at Holy Cross from 1981 to 2007, ten full years after he was forced to resign as rector at Zahm Hall on campus at Notre Dame in 1997 because of sex abuse allegations there.

As part of the report, Holy Cross College admits one former student reported his accusations directly to the vice president of student affairs who was interviewed by the investigators but had "no memory" of the allegation. The college is now vowing to institute better sex abuse protocols including stricter reporting requirements, prevention methods and sharing all allegations with other Roman Catholic entities including the University Notre Dame and the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend

Holy Cross leaders President Marco J. Clark, Board of Trustees Chair Rob Wolfle, and Past Board Chair John Gschwind releasing this statement:
“To those who experienced abuse or misconduct by Father King, we are deeply sorry. You deserved to be safe. You deserved to be treated with dignity. And when concerns were raised, you deserved to know they would be heard and acted upon.”
