Holy Cross School to hold meeting to discuss mascot being changed

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Holy Cross School in South Bend is planning a meeting to discuss the potential changing of their mascot, the "Crusaders".

Father Jim of the Holy Cross Parish says he received a request several months ago from a group of school parents and parishioners asking him to consider changing the “Crusaders” mascot at Holy Cross School due to their concern that the name and image of the mascot no longer portrays, in a positive manner, the values they profess as a Catholic institution.

A "mascot document" has been developed by the School Advisory Board, which is available to view on the parish website. It's meant to be an informative document that provides a balanced perspective and presentation on the subject.

Holy Cross Parish invites you to participate, if it is of interest to you, in their parish and school listening session on Sunday, November 5, at 11:30 a.m. in the school gym.

Organizers say all participants will have an opportunity to share their thoughts in small groups, with summaries of the small group discussions presented to the larger group.
