Homicide Unit Investigating after a body was found in Elkhart River Saturday

ELKHART, Ind. - Elkhart County Homicide Unit is investigating after dispatchers received a call about a body discovered in the Elkhart River around 12:53 p.m. Sunday.

First responders were dispatched and arrived near the 200 block of East Jackson Street, northwest of the Elkhart Aquatic Center, where a deceased adult man was pulled from the water, authorities say.

The coroner was called, and the Elkhart County Homicide Unit was activated to handle the investigation.

Officials say at this time, the cause and manner of death are undetermined, but there is not believed to be any immediate danger to the public.

The deceased man's name is being withheld at this time, pending family notification.
