Horse killed in collision with vehicle

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- A horse pulling a buggy was killed when a van rear ended the vehicle Wednesday morning, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office. The driver of the buggy was injured in the crash.

Deputies were called to the crash in the 14000 block of CR 126 just before 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The investigation revealed a 16-year-old who was driving east on CR 126 rear ended the horse and buggy.

The driver of the buggy suffered injuries to her neck, shoulder and back, and was transported to the hospital. Her injuries are not life threatening.

The horse died at the scene.

Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash. No enforcement actions were taken, deputies said.
