Hot and humid Saturday, a chance for storms.
Saturday looks to be the hottest day so far in 2016. The heat and humidity combine for a heat index near 100 and fuel for storms in the afternoon and evening.
Most the area will reach 90 Saturday afternoon. The humidity will be steamy with dewpoints in the low 70s. An approaching cold front will trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms by the late afternoon and evening. While there is plenty of fuel for storms ( heat + humidity) the overall setup does not look favorable for widespread storms or severe weather. But a grazing blow by the front will produce thunder-cells.
As of Friday the severe risk level is in the 2 out of 5 category, with the greatest threat being gusty wind up to 60 mph produced by these storms.
