ELKHART, Ind -- The once historic Hotel Elkhart, is returning to downtown on Main street to reclaim the life in Elkhart.
While many are taking advantage of the extra benefits attached to unemployment, a job fair isn't the most popular thing around.
That's unless you're Hotel Elkhart, which was initially built in 1923.
It's return is scheduled for some time in August and managers had what they call a win, after having 36 applicants in four hours, during today's job fair.
The job fair was for openings like maintenance, front desk, housekeeping, and bartenders, totaling almost 50 new jobs in the heart of Elkhart.
"Elkhart needed this hotel. Hotel Elkhart has been the grand-am and part of the staple in downtown Elkhart since it’s inception and built in 1923. It stands 9 stories high. It is the tallest building in Elkhart, so it evidently very prominent when you come down main street." said general manager Melanie Jackson
Although the hotel is not available for viewing at this time, it will consist of multiple restaurants, shops that will host products of local Elkhart businesses, and more.
"To bring something back to life that the community is very familiar with that has historical value within this area. And not just but to also try to incorporate a lot of the local stores into our hotel, to really just build that connection, is really important." said front desk manager Michael Matsuse-panzo
