How to: Safely open a bottle of champagne

UNITED STATES -- If you are one of the millions who plan to uncork a bottle of champagne this weekend, there are some safety tips you should know about.

Each year people end up in the emergency room after getting hit with a cork.

Experts say those corks can travel at 50 miles an hour.

So to uncork safely, point the bottle away from people, cover it with a towel, and twist the cork while holding it downward slightly.

That should let you control the cork as it pops free.
