Hundreds attend Rep. Jackie Walorski Swihart's funeral at Granger Community Church

Hundreds of people gathered at Granger Community Church Thursday morning to pay their final respects to US Rep. Jackie Walorski Swihart. Those in attendance included local dignitaries, a US congressional delegation and some who never even met the congresswoman.

Daniel Buck said he heard Rep. Walorski speak at a church event and wrote her some letters, but they never connected in person.

He said he felt the need to be at the service.

“I just felt drawn to it. I had the opportunity to get away from work and I wanted to be here to participate in it. It seemed like a pretty momentous event to me. I didn’t know her personally. I knew some connections with her family members, but she was just my representative, and she represented me well, and I was very glad for her service," said Buck.

The service began at 11 a.m. with opening statements and an invocation from Pastor John Wilson.

Dean Swihart, Jackie's husband, shared his thoughts and personal memories.

Several politicians who worked closely with Rep. Walorski spoke as well, including Indiana Gov. Eri Holcomb, Rep. Kevin McCarthy, Rep. Steve Scalise, Rep. Ann Wagner and Rep. Brad Wenstrup.
