Hundreds still without power after strong winds sweep through

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Hundreds of customers across Michiana were still without power Thursday morning after wind gusts over 50 mph swept across the area Wednesday.

Indiana and Michigan Power officials told ABC 57 that 481 customers were without power in Elkhart County and St. Joseph County Thursday. According to the company’s website, over 100 customers were also without power in Michigan.

Officials said local and out-of-town crews had been working overnight to restore power.

The company said power should be back on to all of Michiana customers by 6 p.m. on Thursday.

WARNING:  With all the power outages, people who have them will turn to generators. Emergency agencies are warning people to be careful! Do NOT use generators inside the house or garage, and do not set them up outside near windows where the carbon monoxide can seep into the house.
