Hunter discovers human skeletal remains in Lake County Saturday morning

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. - A hunter came across human skeletal remains Saturday morning in Griffith, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

At 7 a.m., the waterfowl hunter discovered what appeared to be bone protruding from a piece of clothing while they were searching for a downed duck in a marsh area near Cline Avenue and River Drive.

The hunter immediately called 911 and Indiana Conservation Officers, as well as law enforcement with the Griffith Police Department and Lake County Sheriff's Office, responded.

The remains were recovered and confirmed to be human.

The identity of the remains is still unknown.

This is an ongoing investigation.
