Spotty storms and breezy, Tuesday
A very mild end to February is helping take a huge chunk out of the ice on Lake Michigan.
High temperatures soared into the upper 40s Monday across Michiana, and more highs near 50 are expected for most of this week.
Just a few days ago, ice cover on Lake Michigan was measuring above normal. Last Friday, one-third of the lake had ice on it. Just three days later, that number has fallen to 23 percent, or a 33 percent reduction.
A similar ice disappearing act is also occurring on the Great Lakes as a whole. More than half of the Great Lakes were frozen as of last Friday. That percentage has fallen to 34 percent to start this week.
This trend shows no signs of slowing down heading into March.
