The Elkhart Police Department reports the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Charles Edward Dean Wolfe with Aggravated Battery, a Level 3 Felony, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Domestic Batterer, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Wolfe allegedly shot his neighbor in the 400 block of State Street in Elkhart on the evening of July 21.

EPD received a call regarding the shooting around 7:22 p.m., that night.

Officers arrived to find a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Wolfe was arrested the morning of July 22.

Witnesses told police the victim and Wolfe got into a fight in front of the apartment building they both lived in. Wolfe allegedly went back inside and returned with a gun, shooting the victim twice.

Wolfe allegedly told investigators he knew he wasn't allowed to have a gun since he has a prior felony conviction.

Wolfe told police he confronted the victim about noise issues before grabbing his handgun and firing at the man.

At last update, the victim was listed as being in critical but stable condition.
