Icy road threat increasing for Wednesday morning

ABC57 First Warning Neighborhood Weather Forecast
Monday, December 8, 2025

Tonight will be partly cloudy and cold with snow showers developing after midnight. Snow should not have any big travel impacts for the Tuesday morning commute, and most snowflakes will be done by sunrise. The rest of Tuesday will be cloudy and chilly with temperatures approaching freezing heading into the afternoon.

A quick weather system moves in Tuesday night, bringing RAIN instead of snow to Michiana. Normally, this would be good news in terms of travel impacts. However, the ABC57 First Warning Neighborhood Weather Team is concerned about widespread icy roads late Tuesday night into the Wednesday morning commute. With more than six inches of snow on the ground and multiple nights with single-digit low temperatures under our belt, our ground is frigid. Rain falling on top of that is not technically "freezing rain," but it could contribute to icy roads and sidewalks, especially if air temperatures only reach the middle 30s. Please give yourself ample extra time Wednesday morning to get to work and kids to school.

Snow will mix in with rain by Wednesday afternoon, but major accumulation is not expected. Snow showers are possible Thursday and Friday, with accumulating snow possible heading into this weekend.

Tonight: A few snow showers possible. Otherwise, partly cloudy and cold. Low 14.

Tomorrow: Cloudy and not as cold. High 34. Rain at night, with icy roads possible late.

Wednesday: Rain early could create icy roads. Rain/snow in the afternoon. High 36.

Thursday: Snow showers. High 28.
