Increase in overdose deaths lead Kosciusko County recovery experts to new approach

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. -- According to a local treatment facility, overdose deaths in Kosciusko County have been on the rise in recent years, leading to the creation of a new Harm Reduction Strategic Plan for the area.
Living In Transition Effectively (LITE) Recovery services say that as part of the new plan, they are installing a Naloxbox with doses of Naloxone (Narcan) in all 17 townships of Kosciusko County.
The first was installed in North Webster at the Tippecanoe Fire Station and a second box is going in Mentone this month with plans for more to be installed in Etna Green and Syracuse in the next few weeks.
In March 2024, Kosciusko County launched a Suicide Overdose Fatality Review team, which meets each month, led by county coroner Tyler Huffer. They review the deaths related to either suicide or overdoses in the area.
