Indiana ACLU sues school over eighth-graders' Facebook posts

GRIFFITH, Ind. – GRIFFITH, Ind. – Three Indiana eighth graders are in serious trouble and it's all because of some Facebook comments.

Now the ACLU is coming to their defense with a lawsuit. The trio was expelled in late January, just two days after exchanging messages on the social networking site.

The messages were about who they would hurt and how. They included smiley faces.

"This was three girls joking around,” said Gavin Rose of ACLU Indiana. “If you're serious about committing an act of violence, you do not follow something with LOL. You do not follow it with an emoticon smiley face. This is teenagers being teenagers."

All three girls have been expelled.
