Indiana braces for blizzard conditions

INDIANAPOLIS -- Parts of Southern Indiana are bracing for a big snow storm.

Early reports suggest up to a foot of snow in some parts including Indy. This is the same storm that started in California and has been moving east all week.

The public safety coordinator in Indy said it’s best if people stay put.

“Once the storm arrives we're asking people to stay off the road ways.  If you are low on supplies tonight please go out and try to find a few supplies and top off your gas tanks, charge your mobile devices in case of power outages, do not use 911 for non-emergencies."

If you do need to hit the roadways, make sure to leave a lot of extra time for travel.

Heavy traffic delays are expected. INDOT is also on the roads here in Michiana to keep your family safe. They are pre-treating and plowing roads to get travelers to and from their holiday celebrations safely.

Throughout the season, INDOT winter operations crews are regularly tasked to work through nights, weekends and holidays.
