Indiana man rescued in Lake Michigan at Washington Park

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – Members of the Michigan City Fire Department along with beach-goers at Lake Michigan near Washington Park rescued 25-year-old Christian Rosete of Michigan City from the water on Saturday when he was unable to resurface due to dangerous conditions.

According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, a report came in of a man who slipped underwater around 8:30 p.m.

Rosete was swimming with his family when waves overpowered him and he did not resurface.

At the time of the incident the lake was experiencing "red flag" conditions, indicating that people are prohibited from swimming in the area due to hazardous waters.

Officials transported Rosete to Franciscan Health Hospital in Michigan City where he remains in critical condition.

Assisting agencies include Michigan City Police Department and the Michigan City Fire Department.
