Indiana motorcycle club collects donations for families impacted by bus stop tragedy
FULTON COUNTY, Ind. -- Surrounding communities continue to come together to help the families impacted by Tuesday’s school bus tragedy in Fulton County, and help is extending even further south.
Saturday morning, a motorcycle club from Kokomo is taking to the road to support the families of the three siblings killed and the boy hurt at their bus stop.
Jim Lawson and other members of Milwaukee Iron MC have partnered with the Mentone Fire Department to raise donations.
Donations have been collected at a local coffee shop, and two businesses have agreed to match every penny raised in Kokomo. At 11 Saturday morning, the riders will leave their clubhouse with the donations joined by anyone else wanting to donate at the Mentone fire station.
Lawson says 100 people plan to ride from Kokomo to Mentone to deliver donations from the community, but numbers could reach up to 600 people. Lawson says people from around Michigan, Illinois, and Kentucky have contacted the club about riding to the event.
“We’re Hoosiers. Even though we’re an hour and a half away from you guys, a lot of us have kids, and we know the scare every day. We pray nobody else in this world has to feel this, and whatever we raise, that’s what’s going to them,” Lawson said.
Everyone is encouraged to head to the Mentone fire station this afternoon. Donations will be collected from 12 to 4 Saturday afternoon.
