Indiana Senate approves proposal for 911 phone fees

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Indiana callers are going to have to pay up for emergency phone service.

The Indiana Senate approved a proposal that adds fees for using 911. The fee is being added because fewer people have landline phones in their homes.

The Indiana Association of Counties estimates 911 fee revenue has dropped about $20 million, that's in five years.

If the plan goes through, callers will be charged a $1 fee.
