Indiana State Fair rides inspected

Thursday state safety inspectors were out at the Indiana State fairgrounds making sure all the rides are safe.

The state inspectors carefully examine each ride in the midway and kiddie land.

They check to see if the rides are mechanically sound and in compliance with state laws.

Homeland Security says they must also make sure paperwork is up to date and operators properly trained.

"They are looking at things like how fast these spin and how many times these are supposed to rotate through a cycle and stuff like that. Then they will come out here and see how it is set up. And if it's set up properly," said Ian Connor, Spokesman for Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

There is a daily checklist to go through before operators can start any ride.

The Indiana State Fair begins August 1 and runs through August 17th.
