Winter is quickly approaching, bringing snow and cold weather, and experts want to make sure you're prepared.
The Indiana Toll Road is prepped for the winter season with 20,000 tons of salt.
But, while they prep the roads, they ask you prepare just in case something does happen.
That means giving yourself extra time to go to locations, driving slowly, and making sure your focus is on the road.
Indiana State Police Sergeant Ted Bohner, reminds drivers, while they're doing their best to keep the roads safe this season, a lot of the responsibility falls on the drivers.
Sergeant Bohner stated, "The most important partner that comes into this is each and every person that gets in the driver's seat of a car and drives. Because everything our messaging, all the work that they do on the roads means absolutely nothing if people don't, you know, take heed and change the way that they drive."
The public is reminded when driving, to slow down when going around snowplows and if you have time, it's safer to stay behind them about 100 feet back to ensure easy to travel roads.
It's also recommended if you slide off the road, that you stay inside your car to beat the low temperatures.
You'll also want to make sure you have blankets, water, and non-perishable foods just in case it takes emergency responders awhile to get to you.
