Indians World Series championship merchandise will be destroyed, not donated

Ohio -- Merchandise celebrating the Cleveland Indians World Series championship that never came to be will not be donated, Major League Baseball says.

In the past, pre-made merchandise for losing teams was donated to charity. Last year, New York Mets World Series gear was donated to World Vision, a Christian nonprofit who distributed the clothing to people in developing countries.

This year, however, the MLB will destroy the merchandise.

"In past years we have used World Vision, but we have moved our policy to destroying the merchandise," MLB's Matt Bourne told The Huffington Post. "The reason is to protect the team from inaccurate merchandise being available or visible in the general marketplace."
