Inmate found dead in St. Joseph County Jail identified

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The inmate who was found dead in his cell at the St. Joseph County Jail Friday afternoon has been identified.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office identifies the inmate as 43-year-old Christopher Kleinrichert.

Kleinrichert was found alone and unconscious in his jail cell around 4:15 p.m. during dinner service.

Correctional officers and medical staff administered CPR but those efforts rendered unsuccessful.

According to the SJC Metro Homicide Unit, Kleinrichert was last seen alive approximately 25 minutes prior during a routine medical pass.

An autopsy was performed in Fort Wayne on Saturday where no anatomical causes of death were discovered.

Toxicology results are pending.

The cause and manner of death are expected to be released soon.
