Insurance office robbery in South Bend

Police are looking for a suspect who they believe robbed Affordable Insurance in downtown South Bend on Thursday.

The office is located at the corner of St. Joseph and Bronson Street by the BMV License Branch by downtown South Bend.

Police said it happened at 4:20 p.m. on March 5th and it's a highly populated area.

Lt. Cindy Kilgore of Crime Stoppers said, “He asked to use a phone, which he did, and had a conversation with somebody.”

Kilgore said the suspect appeared to be a customer looking for auto insurance.

Kilgore said, “[He] put his hand in his pocket, implying that he had a gun, and demanded money which is frankly strange to us.”

Kilgore said the suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his 30s.

The office is located a block away from the Transpo Bus Station and social security office.

Arthur Tucker said, “Monday through Friday that insurance company is crowded it's jam-packed so maybe they could have someone to come and around and watch it, maybe security.”

Police said the suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of cash from Affordable Insurance.
