Salvation Army Kroc Center brings back Red Ribbon March after several years due to community need
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Salvation Army Kroc Center host Red Ribbon March for local residents to come together to take stand for a Drug-Free St. Joeseph.
This event has been going on for 30 years; it's been gone the past few years but brought it back due to community need.
"This event is really important. It's something we've done for over 30 years, and it is it is an honor and remembrance of the DEA agent that was killed down in Mexico fighting against the drug cartels. And so, this is a way to also honor his memory, and to be able to just let the community know we still support this whole effort of being drug free." says Janet Whitfield-Hyduk.
With fall break starting Friday for some kids in the South Bend community, Whitfield-Hyduk says she's most pumped on the turnout of youth attendees.
"I am most excited about all the youth that are here and all of their energy, which also gets me hyped up, so I'm I'm really excited to see the youth turn out on a day that they're out of school."
The march began at 9:30 a.m., at the Charles Martin Youth Center, then marched to the Salvation Army Kroc Center, where participants took part in a pledge presentation and entertainment.
