Investigators have released the autopsy results for the man killed outside of a Notre Dame facility near the St. Joseph River over the weekend.
According to St. Joseph County Metro Homicide, Eric Phillips died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds and they are still searching for suspects at this time.
Investigators tell ABC 57 News an off-duty officer found a body outside the McConnell Family Boathouse, home of the university rowing team, near Northside Boulevard in South Bend early Saturday morning.
Just over 24 hours after investigators were at the scene, they tell ABC 57 News someone shot 37-year-old Eric Phillips of Benton Harbor multiple times and the investigation officially being listed as a homicide. The victim has no known connection to Notre Dame.
As far as suspects, investigators tell ABC 57 no one is under arrest at this time and they are still searching for who killed Phillips. ABC 57’s Andrea Alvarez did reach out to a family member of the victim, however we are still waiting to hear back.
Investigators say they do plan on releasing more details later once they uncover more facts in the investigation, like why it all happened in the first place.
