Irish first BCS team to have highest graduation rate

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The Fighting Irish are ranked number one football. But the Irish have accomplished some else. They are the first number one BCS team to have the highest graduation rate.

Irish success on and off the field takes a lot of work and support.

The university has a strict policy on the number of classes an athlete can miss.

And the NCAA faculty representative said Coach Kelly does not let anyone slide.

"You absolutely have to have coaches buy into that and we're very lucky we have a lot of those coaches including Coach Kelly," said Tricia Bellia.

It is not just football that tops the graduation success rate.

Of the 26 sports at Notre Dame, 21 of them share that number one spot.
