Irish football finally break through and torch Purdue 56-30 for first win
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame’s first victory of the season came in wild fashion, as the Irish rolled past Purdue 56–30 in a five-hour marathon that featured a 90-minute rain delay, a kick return touchdown, and even a defensive score. It wasn’t perfect—especially in the first half—but the defense found its footing after halftime. The Irish pitched a third-quarter shutout, clamped down on the run game by holding the Boilermakers to just 76 yards on the ground, and showed flashes of improved pressure up front while working in younger players in the secondary.
Freshman quarterback CJ Carr delivered his cleanest performance yet, going 10 for 12 for 223 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. On the ground, Notre Dame’s attack exploded behind Jadarian Price, who scored four total touchdowns, including three rushing and one immediately after the weather delay, while Jeremiyah Love chipped in big runs of his own. Head coach Marcus Freeman admitted the team still has plenty to clean up, but he emphasized that the win was an important step in the right direction. Next up: a road trip to face SEC opponent Arkansas, where the Irish will look to prove they can turn one chaotic victory into lasting momentum.
