ISP trooper witnesses fatal accident, victim identified

WARSAW, Ind. -- An Indiana State Police trooper was a witness to a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a motorcycle Tuesday afternoon in the 4800 block of SR 15.

The trooper said he was traveling south on SR 15 behind two vehicles that were slowing for traffic in a construction zone.

The driver of a Chevy Impala heading south attempted to turn into a driveway and drove in the path of motorcycle headed north on SR 15.

The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Impala.

The trooper rendered medical assistance to the injured motorcyclist and called for an ambulance.

Paramedics arrived a few minutes later and provided medical attention to the motorcyclist, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was identified as 58-year-old Alton Stump.

Police said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
