SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Maurnese Wade, a junior at John Adams High School in South Bend, has been awarded a $15,000 scholarship and $5,000 technology prize package from Act, Inc.
Wade was randomly selected from among 340,000 potential recipients who entered the ACT Scholarship Giveaway contest nationwide.
“I was happy but I was confused because I’m like ‘how did me, out of all these people, get this?’,” Wade said. “At first I thought it was like for a score, so I’m like wanting to check my scores and I’m like ‘I don’t even know about this’.”
Wade can use the scholarship towards the college of her choice.
Wade said she wants to attend either a historically black college/university or Grand Valley State University in Michigan.
She also said that she wants to be a neonatal nurse.
The ACT is a standardized test that determines college readiness for high school students.
Students can learn more about the contest by visiting the website for ACT, Inc.
