Juveniles arrested in shots fired call on Cleveland Avenue
ELKHART, Ind. - Two juveniles were arrested on Saturday following a shots fired call on Cleveland Avenue, according to the Elkhart Police Department.
At 6:27 p.m., an officer arrived to the area of 8th Street and Cleveland Avenue for a report of people with firearms who were possibly fighting.
Witnesses told 911 that a vehicle pulled onto the street and individuals inside the vehicle started shooting.
The vehicle then left the area.
A short time later, officers located the described suspect vehicle and initiated a traffic stop in the area of S. 9th Street and Hubbard Avenue.
Officers found handguns during a search of the vehicle, reports said.
A 16-year-old passenger was arrested and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center for a charge of dangerous possession of a firearm.
A second 16-year-old passenger was arrested and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center for a violation of probation.
The driver and two other passengers, all adults, were released from the scene.
Police collected shell casings in the 700 block of W. Cleveland Avenue in connection with the investigation.
No one was reported injured and no properties were reported damaged in connection with the incident.
This is an ongoing investigation.
During the traffic stop, a woman pulled up to the scene in a SUV and began yelling and cursing, according to reports.
Police asked her to lower her voice twice but when she did not, she was arrested, officers said.
The woman, identified as 35-year-old Charlene Crockson of Osceola, was taken to the Elkhart County Jail for disorderly conduct.
