Kirkland sentenced in murder of Jesse Bowen

An Elkhart County judge sentenced 21-year-old Travion Kirkland for the murder of 21-year-old Jesse Bowen in April 2012 on Thursday.

Kirkland was sentenced to 59 years in prison.

On April 16, 2012, Kirkland and an accomplice entered Bowen’s home to rob him of marijuana and money.

Kirkland shot and killed Bowen, then fled Bowen’s home.

During the trial, the state presented physical and DNA evidence linking Kirkland to the shooting.

Two eyewitnesses also identified Kirkland as the person who shot Bowen.

Bowen’s aunt and cousin spoke at the sentencing hearing.

Kirkland will serve 59 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections.
