Knife found in elementary student's backpack

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Parents of Elm Road Elementary school students received a letter Monday saying that a knife was found in a student's backpack Monday morning.
According to the letter, the student made a threatening comment. After further questioning, the knife was discovered in the student's backpack.
The school principal wrote in the letter that the knife was never taken out of the backpack, either on the bus or in school.
The Penn Harris Madison Director of Safety and Student Services and the student's parents have been notified.
The student has been disciplined, according to the letter.
