La Porte Jaycees cancels fireworks display due to worker injury

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte Jaycees have canceled Wednesday night's fireworks display at the La Porte County Fairgrounds.

The fireworks were cancelled because a worker with the fireworks vendor was injured.

One of the workers who was setting up the display fell off a truck and broke his leg, according to an official with the fairgrounds.

Because that person is the only licensed 'shooter' who is specially trained to set off the fireworks, the event had to be cancelled.

The La Porte Jaycees posted this statement to their Facebook page

La Porte Community,

Due to a worker injury on site with our fireworks vendor, we regret to inform you that this evening’s fireworks celebration has been cancelled. Please understand that this is not an easy decision that we had to make, however we apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate our community and sponsors support.

Sponsors, we will be reaching out to you directly very soon.

Thank you for your continued support and we love our community and we will see you at the parade tomorrow.

An alternative fireworks show Wednesday night is the Red Wine and Brew display at Stone Lake Beach.

The Jaycees says they are sending volunteers to assist with this event because of an expected increase in crowds.

This is the first time the Jaycees have cancelled a display for circumstances other than weather.
