La Porte man calls police on himself after beating homeowner with a bat
LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A La Porte man called police on himself after beating another man with a baseball bat and possibly stabbing him on Sunday.
The La Porte County Sheriff's Office says that on Feb. 25 at 5:04 a.m., a deputy was dispatched to a home on the 7700 block of U.S. 35 for a report of a disturbance.
When the deputy arrived, he found 35-year-old Matthew Castaneda who told him he had battered the homeowner with a baseball bat.
Castaneda was taken into custody and the victim was found inside the house with upper body injuries.
"In addition to being struck by the bat, it was learned the victim had sustained a stab wound," the LCSO said.
The victim was transported to a regional hospital for treatment and Castaneda was booked into the La Porte County Jail .
On Monday, Castaneda was charged with Aggravated Battery, a Level 3 Felony. He remains in jail on a $25,005.00 cash bond through Circuit Court.
