La Porte Police creates specialized team to combat crime

The La Porte Police Department's Drug & Crime Reduction Strike Force began patrolling the city on Tuesday.

The strike force is made up of three officers and a K-9 team. They will use proactive techniques in problem areas to reduce drug and criminal offenses, according to the department.

Police Chief Adam Kimczak says they can staff the unit because they are nearly up to full staff with the addition of two officers who have completed their training and two additional officers who will complete their training at the end of the month.

The officers won't be responding to calls for service, but will patrol high crime and drug areas during the busiest hours, according to the department.

The strike force will work closely with the Metro unit, Patrol Division and Detective Bureau to make sure they are targeting the right areas at the right time, according to the police department.
