La Porte Police investigating home invasion robbery

LA PORTE, Ind. -- La Porte Police are investigating a home invasion robbery that happened at a home in the 300 block of Jefferson Avenue Tuesday evening.

At 10:55 p.m., La Porte Police responded to a medical call at the home.

The 49-year-old resident told police he fell while chasing a man who entered his home and robbed him at gunpoint, reports said.

The victim told police he was inside his home with his three children asleep in the living room when a man entered the home and demanded his money at gunpoint.

The victim said he didn't have any money and the suspect allegedly threatened to shoot the children if he didn't comply, reports said.

The suspect fled after the victim gave him a small amount of cash.

After the suspect left, the victim ran after him, but fell and injured himself.

Police said the victim was taken to La Porte Hospital for treatment. He was treated and released.

The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 5-08 tall, and of medium build, who wore a mask covering the lower portion of his face.
