LaGrange family works to restore the old Bloomfield Schoolhouse
LAGRANGE, Ind-- What started as a COVID project, quickly bloomed into something much bigger. One local family in LaGrange decided to take on a big project, restoring the historic Bloomfield Schoolhouse. The Wiggins family moved to Indiana from Texas where one of their favorite spots to visit was a lavender farm. The family started growing lavender and quickly realized this hobby could be something much bigger.
After selling out at farmers' markets in the area, and the lavender growing quick, the Wiggins family decided to open up a storefront downtown to sell different products all surrounding lavender. They created Bloomfield Lavendar Apothecary and then decided to purchase the schoolhouse to create an event space and add on to their lavender farm, creating a space for the whole community.
Currently the building is under renovations, but it has been added to the national register of historic places to help keep this building around for many years to come.
Marion Wiggins, the owner and founder tells ABC57's Sidney Moore that this building was like Pandora's Box, full of surprises, but it has been a great learning experience restoring a historic building, and she is looking forward to giving the community what they have been missing for years.
