Lake Michigan College predicts drop in enrollment

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- Lake Michigan College expects to see a drop in enrollment this fall. That is not necessarily bad news, though.

Official numbers will not be released until October, but Lake Michigan College is projecting a drop in the number of students who attend its Benton Harbor campus. This is the first time this has happened since 2007.

The president of the community college told us that this shows the economy is on the rebound. Bob Harrison says students are getting re-trained and local businesses are hiring.

"It's what's in the community's best interest. So if people are back to work that's good news for everyone. A stronger economic base in the long term will help the community colleges,” said Bob Harrison, LMC President.

Even though they're expecting numbers to drop, this year's class will still be one of the largest in the college’s history.
