Latest shooting marks 30 in South Bend this year

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Monday night's shooting on the 1600 block of W. Western Avenue marks South Bend's 30th shooting so far this year. Police say the city only had around 8 shootings this time last year.


Officer say they were alerted of the incident just after 9 p.m. thanks to ShotSpotter audio sensors.


The 18-year-old victim was shot in the arm.


Police say he checked himself in to Memorial Hospital's ER.


Officers are waiting to finish alerting the rest of the victim's family before revealing his identity.


Police say they have no suspects in this case. They ask that anyone with information on the shooting to please call (574)-288-STOP (7867).
